Server Status Checker

Loading status checker...

How to Use

Enter a Minecraft server address (like play.hypixel.net), select Java or Bedrock edition, and click Check Status. Results appear in seconds with player count, version, latency, and more.

How Server Status Checking Works

Redstone

When you click Check Status, our server sends a protocol-level ping to the target Minecraft server, exactly the same way your Minecraft client does when you add a server to your multiplayer list.

For Java Edition, we use the Server List Ping (SLP) protocol. This opens a TCP connection on port 25565 (or your custom port), performs a handshake, and requests the server's status JSON, which includes the version, player count, MOTD, and favicon.

For Bedrock Edition, we send a UDP unconnected ping packet on port 19132. The Bedrock protocol responds with a status string containing the server name, player count, game mode, and version information.

Java SLP Protocol

  • TCP connection on port 25565
  • Handshake + status request
  • Returns JSON with full server info
  • Includes base64-encoded favicon
  • Measures round-trip latency

Bedrock UDP Protocol

  • UDP packet on port 19132
  • Unconnected ping/pong exchange
  • Returns semicolon-delimited status
  • Includes game mode and world name
  • Faster response than TCP

Good to Know

The latency shown in the results is the round-trip time from our server to the Minecraft server. Your in-game ping will differ based on your own location and network conditions.

Common Connection Errors & Fixes

Connection Timed Out

The server did not respond within the timeout window.

  • Verify the IP address and port are correct
  • The server may be offline or restarting
  • A firewall may be blocking the connection
  • Try again in a minute

Unknown Host / DNS Failure

The domain name could not be resolved to an IP address.

  • Check for typos in the server address
  • The domain may have expired or been removed
  • Try using the numeric IP if you have it
  • Your DNS provider may be having issues

Connection Refused

The server actively rejected the connection attempt.

  • The Minecraft server process may not be running
  • The port number may be wrong
  • The server may have IP-based access controls
  • Make sure you selected the right platform (Java/Bedrock)

Wrong Platform / No Response

Sending a Java ping to a Bedrock server (or vice versa) gets no valid response.

  • Toggle between Java and Bedrock and try again
  • Check if the server supports crossplay (GeyserMC)
  • Bedrock servers use UDP; Java uses TCP
  • Some servers run both editions on different ports

Version Mismatch Warning

The server supports a different Minecraft version than you are running.

  • Check the version string in the results
  • Switch your Minecraft client version to match
  • Use a launcher like MultiMC or Prism for easy version management
  • Some servers support multiple versions via ViaVersion

Still Having Issues?

If you consistently get timeouts for a server that others can join, your ISP may be blocking the port, or you may need to add a firewall exception for Minecraft (javaw.exe on Java, Minecraft.exe on Bedrock).

What to Check Before Connecting

Server Address

Essential

Double-check the server IP or domain name for typos. Even a single wrong character will prevent the connection.

Correct Port

Essential

Java Edition defaults to 25565 and Bedrock to 19132. Only specify a port if the server uses a non-default one.

Platform Match

Essential

Make sure you are checking the right platform. A Java server will not respond to a Bedrock ping and vice versa.

Server Status

Important

If the server shows as offline, it may be undergoing maintenance or experiencing downtime. Try again in a few minutes.

Version Compatibility

Important

The version string tells you which Minecraft versions the server supports. Make sure yours is compatible before joining.

Firewall / VPN

Nice to Have

Firewalls, antivirus software, or active VPN connections can sometimes block pings. Try disabling them temporarily if you get timeouts.

Tips & Tricks

Beginner Tips

1

Copy the IP Exactly

Always copy-paste server addresses instead of typing them. Even a single wrong character causes connection failures.

2

Use Default Ports

Most servers use the default port (25565 for Java, 19132 for Bedrock). You only need to specify a port if the server tells you to.

3

Check Before You Join

Run a quick status check before launching Minecraft. This saves you time if the server is down for maintenance.

Advanced Tips

Share Results

Use the Share Result button to send a pre-filled check link to friends who are having trouble connecting to the same server.

Port Forwarding

If you run your own server and it shows offline here, you likely need to configure port forwarding on your router for port 25565 (Java) or 19132 (Bedrock).

SRV Records

Java servers can use DNS SRV records so players connect with just a domain name and no port number. Check if your hosting provider supports this.

Monitor Uptime

Bookmark the shareable link for your server and check it periodically to monitor uptime patterns and catch outages early.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does this server status checker do?
This tool sends a real-time ping to any Minecraft server and reports whether it is online or offline. If the server is online, you will also see the current player count, supported version, MOTD (message of the day), latency, and the server icon.
Does it work with both Java and Bedrock servers?
Yes. You can toggle between Java Edition and Bedrock Edition before checking. Java uses the SLP (Server List Ping) protocol on port 25565, while Bedrock uses UDP on port 19132. The tool automatically uses the correct protocol for each platform.
Why does the server show as offline when I can play on it?
This can happen for several reasons: the server may block external pings for security, a firewall rule might be filtering traffic, or you may have entered the wrong port. Some servers also use proxy networks (like BungeeCord) where the public IP differs from the play address.
What is MOTD?
MOTD stands for Message of the Day. It is the short description that appears in the Minecraft server list below the server name. Server owners customize it to display information about the server, current events, or welcome messages.
What does latency (ping) mean?
Latency is the round-trip time in milliseconds between our checker and the server. Under 100 ms is excellent, 100-200 ms is acceptable, and anything above 200 ms may cause noticeable lag during gameplay. Your in-game latency may differ since it depends on your own network location.
Can I share the result with someone?
Yes. After checking a server, click the Share Result button to copy a direct link. Anyone who opens that link will see the same server pre-filled and can run their own check instantly.
How often can I check a server?
There is no hard limit, but please allow a few seconds between checks for the same server. The tool queries the server in real-time on every request, so frequent pings to the same address are unnecessary and may be rate-limited by the server.
Why is the player count different from what I see in-game?
The player count returned by the ping protocol is what the server reports externally. Some servers use plugins to customize this number, hide the real count, or show different values to the server list than what you see once connected.
